Fountain of Youth Found

Ponce De Leon famously searched for the fountain of youth in Florida (before all the old folks moved there, I think). Turns out the fountain is everywhere around you (even Florida), only it’s not a fountain.

“Regular physical activity can reduce your risk of cognitive decline, including dementia. One study found that cognitive decline is almost twice as common among adults who are inactive compared to those who are active.”

Movement is medicine.

If it actually were medicine it would be the most prescribed, m most effective pill in the world.

Make it stand out

Mental benefits- check. Are there physical benefits as well?

The attached MRI image of three different quadriceps illustrates a few things.

  • How much muscle is lost if you’re sedentary.

  • How little muscle mass you’ll lose if you work out consistently over years.

Conclusion: working out is the fountain of youth.

The Shawshank Redemption had it right. We have “a simple choice: get busy living; or get busy dying.” Mental and physical decline are inevitable, but the severity of the decline is, in large part, up to you.

You don’t have to have worked out your entire life to see benefits. You don’t have to work out for hours at a time. Start where you are today. Start small. You’ll be shocked by your improvements.

You still have a choice:

Embrace discomfort. Move. Lift. Sweat. Get hurt. Recover. Lift more, sweat more, stretch more. Stay sharp, independent and vital.

Embrace the discomfort of declining strength/health.

Your move.
